What can I do if I’m struggling to follow a lesson video?

First of all, you're not alone! Learning an instrument (especially the handpan) comes with moments where things don’t click right away. If you’re feeling stuck, here are two powerful ways to move forward:

1. Ask for Support in the Handpan Village

The easiest and most effective solution is to share your challenge inside our community, the Handpan Village.

You’ll receive support from fellow students who may be experiencing the exact same difficulty you are.

You can even:

  • Post a video in the “Ask for Feedback” section
  • Ask specific questions about the part you’re stuck on
  • Get practical advice and encouragement

And don’t worry - the Village is a kind and supportive space. Everyone is there to grow together.

2. Strengthen What You’ve Already Learned

Sometimes the best way forward is actually to take a step back, and pause. We naturally want to push ahead and learn new techniques, but real progress happens when we solidify the foundations first.

If you're stuck on a specific lesson, try to:

  • Revisit earlier lessons to make sure you've got the base down
  • Slow things down, focusing on control
  • Practice part of the pattern repeatedly until you move on to the next part

Even if you feel like you “already know it,” taking the time to practice a previous section can potentially help unlock the following one. Then, when you come back to the challenging section, you might be surprised how much easier it feels!
